  • Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Attleborough, but we can quote and provide services for other areas through East Anglia. Please give us a call on 01953 452622 to find out more.

  • What ID do I need?

Mellor Metals requires suitable identification from all scrap metal suppliers before we can complete any transaction.

All you need is photo ID & address ID (preferably a photo card driving license) and bank details (account number & sort code) for a faster payment straight into your bank account.

When you visit our site in Attleborough, Norfolk, we will need to check these documents before agreeing and finalising any sale.

  • What if I don't bring my ID?

Unfortunately, you will be unable to leave your metal with us.

  • Do I need to bring anything else with me?

You do not need to bring anything else with you other than photo ID & address ID (preferably a photo card driving license) and bank details (account number & sort code) for a faster payment straight into your bank account.

  • When will the money go into my account?

Your payment will be paid on the same day. VAT registered accounts will be paid via BACs on receipt of a VAT invoice.

  • Do I have to have an appointment to come to you?

Yes, with the Covid pandemic we are currently booking customers in for appointments to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors. You can book an appointment on this website, on our app or you can call us in the office.

  • What metals are excluded from recycling?
    • Metals contaminated with dirt, excessive oil, grease, rust or corrosion
    • Explosives, shells, bombs and any other dangerous inflammable material
    • Alloys, although certain proportions may be permitted by joint agreement
    • Hazardous radioactive material
    • Deliveries that do not comply with health, safety and environmental requirements
    • Pressurised gas canisters, fuel containers or sealed items
  • Do you pay cash?

No. It is illegal to buy scrap metal with cash since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act came into force in 2013. Payment is made straight to your bank account.

  • What bank details do I have to have?

To transfer money into your bank account, we need the name on the account, sort code and account number. Using your name on someone else’s account will not work as the payment will bounce back.

  • Can I put the money into another person’s bank account or use their ID if I don’t have mine?

We require the ID for whose bank account the payment is going to.

  • Do I need the logbook if I’m scrapping my car?

If possible, the logbook is useful for us to identify the vehicle and to deregister it online with DVLA to produce a Certificate of Destruction. If you do not have a logbook, we should be able to identify the vehicle from the VIN Chassis number and the registration plate.

  • Do you collect household scrap?

We do not collect household scrap, however, we are able to pass on your details to a trusted scrap metal collector that we know to collect this for you.

  • Do you help offload my scrap?

We assist all of our customers and use our equipment and machinery to offload your scrap where we can.
